In today's episode...
G’day, you mob! So, in this episode of Pete’s 2c, I’m diving into your awesome Instagram questions. Let’s get started!
First up, Melbourne! What should you absolutely check out in the CBD? Well, chocoholics NEED to hit Max Brenner in QV Square, and Flinders Lane is full of cool street art. The Royal Exhibition Buildings in Carlton Gardens are totally stunning. Now, if you want delicious seafood, find a calamari place on Lygon Street. But the best? Seeing those adorable penguins down at St Kilda!
Next question: toughest English accent? Honestly, there’s no single answer. It’s all about how much you’ve heard different accents before. If someone’s never encountered a strong Scottish accent, boom, that’ll be tough!
Got an introvert wanting to boost their English? My advice: be interested and be interesting! Find stuff you’re passionate about and that’ll naturally spark conversations. Find people you click with, and the English practice will flow way easier.
Okay, “general” vs “academic” English – what’s the deal? General is your everyday talking, texting, that sort of thing. Academic is for lectures, essays, stuff you’d do at uni. It’s a little more formal.
Finally, the big “serviette” mystery! Why not just ‘napkin’? Well, turns out we Aussies like being fancy. ‘Napkin’ sounds more like the cloth ones, while ‘serviette’ covers those paper ones too.
There you have it! Hope that answers some of your burning Aussie English questions.
