Hey everyone, welcome back to Pete’s 2c! Today, I’m doing something a little different. Instead of our usual Instagram Q&A, I stumbled across a fascinating Reddit thread about migrant experiences in Australia – the good, the bad, and the straight-up surprising culture shocks.
First up, nature! Aussies deal with a whole other level of wildlife. Sure, there are the cute ones, but then you’ve got magpies swooping, massive predator birds like wedge-tailed eagles… and the bugs, oh my god, the bugs!
Speaking of surprises, get ready for early closing times, especially outside big cities. Dinner here is often way earlier than you might be used to. And if you’re coming from a place with awesome internet? Brace yourself, because it’s sadly not Australia’s strong point.
But here’s the good stuff: Aussies are generally super laid-back and love to have a laugh. Even in a tough situation, we’ll probably crack a joke. We’re a fun-loving bunch!
Now, a couple of not-so-great things: you might be shocked at the sky-high rent prices, and the sheer number of migrants from all over the world can take some adjusting to.
Let me know if you’ve had any of these experiences yourself!
